A Scrum Team carries out Scrum development, and success depends on each member's role and how those roles interact. Scrum was originally a rugby term, and a Scrum Team has many similarities to the way a rugby team behaves.
What an ideal Scrum Team should be
• Full participation
Rather than separating those who think from those who execute, everyone thinks and everyone acts. In the spirit of "All for One, One for All," members divide roles to use their strengths while supporting one another and aiming for the team's victory—the realization of the project.
• Diversity
Team members bring different expertise and skills, broadening problem-solving and idea generation. Members with the skills and knowledge needed to realize the project are assigned to the team.
• Commitment
The entire team commits to a shared goal and works together to achieve it. Every member must act as a professional with a strong determination to deliver results.
Key Scrum Team roles
1. Product Owner
• Responsibility:
Maintains the product vision and organizes and manages the Product Backlog, or list of requirements, in priority order.
• Main activities
Communicating with stakeholders, clarifying requirements, adjusting backlog-item priorities, and ensuring coordination with the team.
2. Scrum Master
• Responsibility:
Ensures that the Scrum framework is understood correctly and practiced appropriately. Supports the removal of impediments and improvement of team efficiency.
• Main activities
Removes barriers facing the team, promotes Scrum practices, teaches Scrum principles and methods, and prevents unnecessary external interference.
3. Development Team
• Responsibility
Turns Product Backlog items into concrete deliverables and aims to complete the selected backlog items during the Sprint.
• Main activities
Responsible for all activities needed to create a product Increment, including design, coding, testing, and documentation.
Through its roles and their interactions, the Scrum Team builds a strong collaborative relationship for delivering high-quality products quickly. The unique responsibilities and activities of each role support effective operation of the team as a whole and the achievement of results.
